Getting to the University of Queensland and around Brisbane
For those planning on using public transport during the conference, it is generally cheaper to purchase a Go Card ($10) and top it up as you go. Individual trip tickets are 30% more expensive than single trip using a Go Card. At the end of your stay in Brisbane, you can visit a Go Card retailer or Queensland Rail ticket office to receive a refund on any unused or leftover travel funds.
If you’re staying in Brisbane City or Southbank, Bus 66 goes direct to the University of Queensland every 5-10 minutes. If staying in Brisbane City or Toowong, Bus 411 and Bus 412 go direct to UQ. For additional and alternative bus services, see Translink’s Journey Planner.
If you’re staying in Brisbane City, Southbank or Toowong, the CityCat ferry leaves every 10-15 minutes and travels directly to UQ. The trip from the city usually takes approximately 30 minutes. Visit Translink for more information on travelling by ferry.
Driving & Parking
There is typically less traffic to and around UQ during January. Parking at UQ is regulated 24 hours a day, and paid parking applies to all sites on campus. Some sites range from pay-per-hour and others are a flat rate per day. For more information please check the UQ website about parking rates. The University also uses the smartphone app CellOPark which can be used for all parking sites once an individual has registered through the app. Alternatively, UQ uses Pay by Plate parking machines.
Getting from the Airport
The Air Train departs the Domestic and International airports every 15 – 30 minutes, and travels to Brisbane City, South Bank and Park Road (close to UQ). Fares are approximately $20 for one way or $40 return. For more information visit the Air Train website.
Alternatively, there are a range of shuttle bus options, or taxis and rideshares like Uber. To see more options visit the Brisbane Airport website.
For those travelling to Brisbane we would recommend staying in Brisbane City or South Bank and using public transport or car to get to the university. There are a variety of accommodation options available as well as easy access to cafes and restaurants.
Rydges is located within South Bank, along the Brisbane River surrounded by restuarants, cafes and bars. It is approximately 20 minutes to UQ via bus from the Cultural Centre or train from South Bank Station, or 30 minutes via the Brisbane Citycat (ferry).
